This unit brings the world of science into the classroom of a second language teacher through simple experiments that require very little preparation but have a high interest value for the class. It presents a fun, light-hearted look at science for the non-scientist teacher and the second
language student. Students will learn some basic scientific vocabulary, while also discovering the scientific process through motivating hands-on experiments. Throughout the unit students are shown the scientific inquiry process of identifying a question, listing the materials required, conducting
and describing the experiment, analyzing the result and coming up with a conclusion. Along the way, they also learn about Francophone cultural components that are linked to their science theme.
Final Task: Students work in small groups to create a science show for a younger audience.
The show features fun and motivating science experiments. Each member in a group is integrated in the final presentation as host, expert, or lab technician.
Workbook Blackline Masters support the core activities, and provide opportunities for students to practise language. Also included
are additional complementary activities and a comprehensive French-English Lexique for student reference. Also includes the Mini-guide section reproduced in the back of the workbook.
