About the Book

Step Up to Academic Reading 2e is a skills-based textbook for upper-intermediate to advanced EAP students in college and university EAP programs. It is most compatible with segregated skills programs, but can also be used in paired and integrated programs. Each chapter focuses on a particular set of reading skills - such as making predictions, differentiating between facts and opinions, and understanding the research article format - that are developed gradually through a variety of activities. Shorter readings in each chapter provide "intensive" reading opportunities to apply specific reading strategies. The final chapter contains "extensive" reading opportunities, short stories that allow students to read for enjoyment while intuitively developing their understanding of grammar, vocabulary and syntax. The six chapters contain enough content for a semester-long reading course.
